About

West of West is an Architecture studio that creates experience-driven buildings and interior spaces

We work closely with brands, companies, and individuals to create meaningful projects that are relevant today and in the future. Our work reflects a strategic balance of function, beauty, economy, and opportunity founded on the value of design. We lead every project from start to finish to ensure a high level of design quality and service.

The studio’s portfolio includes creative workplace, bespoke retail, custom residential, and select hospitality.  These diverse project types are connected by strong leadership, clear communication, and a rigorous design process.

West of West was founded by Jai Kumaran and Clayton Taylor, AIA. Inspired by the explorative spirit of the American West, the studio strives to push boundaries and has a long-standing obsession with light, form, materiality, and craft. Each project is an opportunity to create compelling spaces and shape new experiences.

The studio operates in Portland, OR and Los Angeles, CA.
